Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII & IX (83")
The Mk.VIII Spitfire was introduced in 1942 in response to the threat from the Luftwaffe’s Fw190s. Powered by the more powerful Rolls Royce Merlin 60 engine it was an extremely effective fighter, and from then on Spitfires were always equal or superior to any other piston engined fighter.
This 1:5.33 scale 2.1 m wingspan RC model plan of the famous Spitfire represents the Mk.VIII & IX, perhaps the finest of the breed. Not for the beginner, but it builds into a fabulous model! The big three-sheet plan can be used to build either the Mk.VIII or Mk.IX, and includes provision for the installation of retractable undercarriage and working flaps. The model is of conventional all-wood construction, but a moulded plastic cockpit canopy, engine cowling and a metal propeller spinner are available. A laser-cut wood-pack is available. The model was designed to be powered by a four-stroke engine, but experienced modellers have successfully converted it to electric power.
