Fairey Tipsy Trainer 1 G-AEWT - 'Full Size Focus' Photo CD

The development of the Tipsy series of all-wooden monoplanes started in 1937. The Tipsy S and S2 single-seat models of 1935 achieved limited success, so designer Ernest Oscar Tips decided to develop this type as a two-seater. It was first demonstrated at Heathrow on May 14th 1937, and Brian Allen Aviation Ltd based at Croydon Airport acquired the UK selling rights. Arrangements were then made to manufacture the aircraft under license and construction began almost immediately at Hanworth, Wiltshire.
