Full Description

This double-DVD contains nearly three hours of fast-paced tutorials covering a variety of techniques and skills that will make you a better builder and help you understand the latest technologies and equipment now available for high performance electric gliders.

In Part 1, I build-out a new Xplorer 3 F5J fuselage with the latest and lightest power system gear and technology. I show you how to complete all of the steps required including motor selection, CG calculations, fuselage modifications, advanced ESC programming, HV servo installations, and battery selection. Other build subjects include installing super-light carbon GM props, a PNC Innovations aluminum firewall, and a custom servo tray for our MKS HV digital servos.

There are some cool new receiver back-up battery solutions available and you'll learn about the Scorpion and Optipower back up systems. I'll show you how they work and teach you some tips on how to set them up and install them properly so they will save your plane if you have a main battery or ESC failure.

For the competition minded, I show you how to install and program a CAM ALES unit and the new Aerobtec Altisv4+ F5J limiter and altitude tracker, a device required to fly the new F5J soaring tasks.

In Part 2, I go into the technical aspects of batteries and power system optimisation. I cover LiPo battery performance and the importance of low internal resistance, and we'll see if the new High Voltage motor packs are worth the extra cost.

You'll then learn some valuable tips on how to use the latest version online power system simulator Prop Calc. We'll run some calculations and use the new analog dial display to help us quickly determine the best propellor and battery size for our required climb rate with our chosen motor and ESC. We''ll then compare the Prop Calc data with actual static and flight test data to ensure that our motor and ESC are not running currents over their rated specifications. With the Alti V4 altitude tracks and our ESC data logging, we can see which is the better performing propellor under real flight conditions.

I guarantee the knowledge you gain from this video will save you a ton of time and money. You'll learn how to save weight, put the gear in the right places, buy the motor that will give you the climb you want, and match it to a prop and battery sized correctly to make a high performance e-glider that will be highly reliable as well.
