Taught by expert Paul Naton, this training program will teach you the skills you will need to properly convert gliders to electric power and safely set up, maintain, and track flight and power system performance. It's recommended that you learn the basic e-flight skills taught in the first Electric Sailplane Clinic as you will need to know the technical terms and basic assembly skills used in this more advanced training program.
Tutorials include:
- Choosing a power system
- How to use power calculation software
- Power system installation seminar
- Performance data collection and analysis
- Advanced ESC programming
- Battery performance monitoring
- Pre-flight safety and testing
The main focus of this 2 hour training program will be the conversion of a 3.5 meter F3J sailplane into a light weight but fast climbing electric glider equipped with the best hardware available, ready for altitude limited competitions as well as performance thermal flying.
You will then learn how to install and test a light-weight geared outrunner system with the latest high discharge batteries providing power. Paul teaches you a variety of skills from fabricating a custom firewall to static testing the power system to gather real performance data. Other subjects covered in detail are custom programming your ESC with computer software, ESC data collection, Li po battery testing and maintenance, LI-FE receiver battery set-ups and BEC wiring, spinner installation tips, radio programming tips for electrics, and Altitude Limiting switch installations for competition flying.
